A bit of History:
Rosie, Rick and Tim had played in the Townends Special Bluegrass Service with
Andy Townend until Andy’s death in 1998. After this, they did not play
for some time. But there were two outstanding engagements – at Lewes
and Dartford folk clubs. The organisers at both venues encouraged them to
put on a show in each case, so they asked Adrian to join them: Adrian had
helped out on several occasions before, deputising when one of the band was
unable to play. The gigs were very successful, and so a new band was formed,
with much new material, and a new sound, using Adrian’s lead guitar
work
as a fundamental part of the way they play
Their Music:
Since 1999 the band have made their mark in the bluegrass world, mainly at
concert venues. Their show is tight, musically extremely exciting, and also
very entertaining. Their material includes original numbers by Rosie, Rick
and Adrian, and also their own arrangements of traditional bluegrass and
other folk songs. They play the bluegrass classics – Foggy Mountain
Breakdown, Orange Blossom Special, Duelling Banjos, and also many songs from
the ‘Oh Brother, Where Art Thou’ suite. Not least, their interpretations
of bluegrass trio numbers, particularly after the style of the Osborne Bros,
give another dimension to their sound.
